The Gunnedah Hospital Redevelopment answers ageing hospital infrastructure, a clinical environment disconnected from the local landscape and cultural identity, challenging wayfinding and a lack of natural light. The new acute services building delivers a contemporary healthcare environment that is welcoming, culturally appropriate and inclusive, guided by principles of designing for Wellbeing, Country and Equity. It includes a new emergency department and a 23-bed inpatient unit collocated with maternity and birthing services.
ARCH wrapped the facade in three cladding profiles, LYSAGHT® SNAPSEAM™, channelled DOMINION® and ribbed SPANDEK®, selected to scale the long building walls with texture and depth. The vertical orientation references the agricultural surrounds of the Liverpool Plains farming landscape. A singular facade colour, COLORBOND® steel Paperbark®, amplifies the play of light and shadow across the varied profiles, with window hoods and entry canopies treated in Terrain®.
