Ridgewood House sits on approximately 20 acres in the Noosa hinterland, with arrival via a long, undulating track that twists and turns through gullies of original rainforest. The long, north facing linear building soars over the site and celebrates the magnificence of the natural environment. Robinson Architects kept it slender, with fine edges and large eaves that shelter the occupants from the elements while the house retains the ability to open completely.
House materials include steel, glass and concrete, meeting BAL 40 fire rating requirements. The house is clad in LYSAGHT CUSTOM ORB® and galvanised iron sheeting, with SPANDEK® on the roof. A large existing shed was re-clad in galvanised iron and a new covered steel awning added to unify it with the house, with part of the shed repurposed into a ceramicists studio. Rainwater is harvested and solar electricity installed, adding to the self sufficiency of the house.
