Blackheath Mountain Retreat is a home designed for a young family and mountain biking enthusiasts. Pre-manufactured modules were built in Sydney and trucked up the Blue Mountains to Blackheath, where the house sits high on the block, nestled amongst native trees. Matthew Dynon Architect wrapped it in a hard shell of LYSAGHT LONGLINE 305® cladding and roofing sheets in COLORBOND® steel Monument® Matt, creating a striking textural contrast with the organic lines and textures of the surrounding trees.
The site is steep, the environment exposed and the build rated BAL 29. A split level design deals with the slope across three levels dropping about half a metre each step: a second bedroom, bunk room and bathroom at the top, open living, kitchen and laundry in the middle, then down to a sunken seating area, main bedroom and ensuite. The simple internal palette is dominated by blackbutt timber in the floors and custom joinery.
